Empowering Communities: Advocacy and Allyship through Integrative Behavioral Health
Ableism, racism, sexism, genderism, classism … Every form of oppression is ultimately rooted in patriarchy, colonialism, and white supremacy (Adams et al., 2023).
In this interactive presentation, we will explore the complex interplay of privilege and oppression in mental health care.
Drawing from critical race theory and intersectional frameworks, we will closely examine how systemic biases have created barriers to quality, culturally responsive mental health care for those with marginalized identities.
Together, we will delve into the importance of cultural responsivity and integrative behavioral health care approaches, including actionable advocacy steps, deconstruct “self-advocacy” for marginalized populations, and effective, inclusive practices.
Additionally, we will explore the delicate dance of allyship and knowing when to speak up and when to listen.
